Passchendaele

On a more sombre note, Coronet has pointed out that today is the 90th anniversary of Passchendaele. 54, 896 Commonwealth soldiers lost their lives fighting from July-November in 1917! Coronet has sent through a great article from the Daily Mail about it that includes colour photographs (they've been handtouched in colour).
It kind of puts Dunedin snow days, Sydney storms and Auckland power cuts into perspective...

Sad and sombre pictures indeed. That was only three generations ago. What a senseless waste of life - as indeed all wars are.
The opposite to war, dierdre is annihilation or subjugation and humiliation. Vide Australian Aboriginal, the New Zealand Moriori and the Tibetan monks in recent times.
Regrettable but real
Dierdre's right. Wars are a waste of life but as Coronet says as long as human beings are intolerant, power crazy and awful to each other we'll continue to have them.
