**CORO CALL OF THE WEEK**

What was your favourite line this week? Be brave and post a comment (go on...who's going to know it's you?!?)

My favourite was Bett to Shelley:

"It's not a crime - not like that cardie!"

(and might I add that it was a hideous cardie...)

Wow - did you hear that penny drop?

Well, clap clap clap to Gail for finally cottoning on. It's only taken her how many months? And what a nice touch with the heart-beat in the background as she realised (shock, horror) that even her own beloved son hates her so much that he would send her birthday cards signed as her dead serial-killer husband!! "Where", she'll ask herself, "did it all go so terribly wrong? Where? Where..."

Minus ten points to David, though, for being so sloppy. Caught out by a paper cut, of all things. How banal - how 'Coro'!

And as for Rita coming out of the closet - what a debacle! Poor old No-Nookie-Norris, all he wants is someone to share a shortbread now and then. Fancy the cheek of that hussy Helen suggesting a weekend in London (mind you, you could tell from the cut of her cardie that she was only after one thing)!

In the docks...

Yes, I confess I didn't see Tuesday night's Coro because I was at class again...but I promise I will watch the video tonight! I've heard it was high drama!!

Keep an ear out tonight for your favourite lines, too - tomorrow you can post them up!

Have just found another great Coro Street blog:

http://shinymedia.headshift.com/corrieblog/

It has lots of bells and whistles, but beware of spoilers!

They also have some regular features like Fab Photo Friday and On this Day in Coronation Street History. Is anyone keen for something like that at Kia Ora Coro? Maybe we could profile a character or actor once a week? Or how about 'Saying of the Week'? We could all keep our ears peeled for the week's classic lines!

Something else that I found at the Coro blog above were the results of a Pantene poll done in the Manchester Evening News about the worst haircuts in soap history. Bet Lynch's luscious locks topped the poll and Gail's grotty, dried out bowel cut came in second (where is the justice?) You can check out the original article at:

Mental health problems

Well, I've only got myself to blame for missing Norris slipping over the other night. I felt quite sorry for him when he asked Rita to help him get to the toilet, but my sympathy waned when we found out he'd only sprained his ankle! What a fusspot!

And now Vera's lost her job, but she's already driving Jack mad so it won't be long before he convinves Roy to take her back!

The highlight for me, though, was when Gail threw a tanty at Audrey for interrupting her drug-induced sleep - ahh, Coro at its best. Of course I live in hope that Gail will take one too many pills but we all know that won't happen.

Thanks...

Thanks everyone, I've got the momentum back for the blog (and Coro)!

Guilty.

Yes, I confess that I've lost the motivation for my Coro blog because I'm in one of those Coro slumps. I haven't watched the last three episodes. And I don't even care. *sigh* There's a virtual chocolate fish for whoever can pep me up.

On the plus side, I'm really enjoying The Apprentice at 7.30 on Tuesdays...oh the shame.

Actor + Doctor = Dactor?

I know you've been eagerly waiting for the Bill Roache update! Well, good news readers, he is now officially Dr William Roache. He's pictured here in his gown alongside the University of Chester's Vice Chancellor, Tim "it's made my day" Whelan.

The Wilmslow Express, Bill's local paper, was on hand to get the following comment from him: "It has been a memorable day for me. Many members of my family were medics and it was wonderful to see my name with the academic doctors." Hmm...guess someone broke the bad news to him that not all Doctors are 'doctors'!
He really doesn't look happy, does he?

Please, please, take Gail with you...

**BREAKING NEWS**

Tina O'Brien (aka Sarah Platt) is leaving the Street! But not for another nine months so, we'll still have her on screen in NZ for another year. She's said that they'll be writing her a dramatic exit - I wish they could do it without giving raisin-head-Gail having another nervous breakdown but anything involving Sarah and David always involves Gail having a breakdown. I can just see it now - Sarah will be dragged off to her death by some Richard Hillman-look-alike and Gail will sit there at the kitchen table with a cup of tea and she'll be saying to Audrey "oh maaam, what am I going to do? What am I going to do?". Bor-ing!

Anyway, Tina's been on Coro for seven and a half years. There was previously another girl, Lyndsey King, playing Sarah, but they brought Tina in when they started the 'teenage girl has baby' storyline (as I recall, Lyndsey's acting wasn't quite up to the challenge).

Does anyone have any good ideas that we could send to the ITV people for getting rid of Sarah?...

About last night...

Did everyone see Coro last night? Does anyone else think there's got to be more to the Rosie car crash story than meets the eye? Or is it really just to show that Sally is mellowing towards Criag? I was half expecting a doctor to come in and say 'well, Rosie, you're pregnant...'!

And what about poor Blanche - dumped like the dregs of a day-old pint! She should never have given him the boot in the first place. Anyway, I think Rita and Archie make a much better couple!

Speaking of couples, when is Audrey going to dump Keith? They're just so unsuited! She's such a wannabe starlet and he's oh-so drab!

As for Tracey...well...let's just wait and see...

And for those of you who do know who's sending neurotic Gail those damn cards (please, please make this storyline stop), check out Ken's agony aunt column on the ITV site (I promise it's worth a look!):

What's your verdict?

*sigh* Only six more months til we can experience today's exciting Coro event. Most of you will probably know why today is so special, but I don't want to ruin it for those of you who don't. Suffice to say that we're in for some high drama!

You're not in Guatemala now, Dr Roache

**BREAKING NEWS**
In another case of life imitating art (see the post entitled 'Scandal'), this Friday Bill Roache (aka Ken) is being awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Chester for his “uniquely sustained contribution” to television! Bill has said: “I am thrilled as my father was a doctor so I can finally be called Dr Roache which would have made him very proud.” Hmm...well maybe he's not getting the award for his Ken-Barlow-esque book smarts, but rather for his 'street' smarts (ha ha ha).
Below is a link to a BBC news article from 2000 about Bill that includes some interesting facts about him and Ken Barlow (did you know Bill spent five years in the army before beginning an acting career?):

Even more interesting is this article (did you know Bill's actually 75 years old?!):

Sing us a song - if you must...

Did anyone else catch last night's An Audience With Coronation Street? I knew an audience with Robbie Williams would involve singing, but I hadn't realised an audience with Coro would too! It wasn't until half way through that I realised the point of the show was to highlight the hidden singing talents of Coro's cast members. Unfortunately, in some cases it would have been better to keep them hidden.
My two favourites, though, were Wendi Peters (aka Cilla) looking very glam in shiny red and Richard Fleeshman (aka moody, broody Craig) who sang two songs, one with Andrew Whyment (aka Fizz's little 'Kirky'). It turns out that Richard actually won the UK's Soap Star Superstar - what a shame we missed that one in NZ...not!

It was quite bizarre seeing all the Coro St faces together (and not in the Rovers) - it was difficult to look at William Roache as a real person and not just as dreary Ken Barlow (although I have heard a rumour that William's just as dreary as Ken in real life...). The surprise for me was Malcolm Hebden (aka Norris) whose droll sense of humour brought out one of the show's few laughs - I guess you'd have to have a sense of humour to play Norris!
